Short Summary
The Perfume Pagoda (Vietnamese “Chua Huong”) is one of the highlights of the Hanoi area and one of the most important religious sites in Buddhist Vietnam. Every spring, after the Vietnamese New Year, thousands of Vietnamese pilgrims come here to pray for all the health and prosperity they need to get them through the year. The pagoda itself is built into limestone cliffs and can only be reached by boat and foot, as there are no roads into this area. You will glide along scenic waterways and walk up steep mountain paths visiting the pagodas and temples that were built in this area over the last centuries.

Itinerary
08:00 Departure. The bus will pick you up at The Jasmine Hotel. The first leg of the trip to the Perfume Pagoda is about 2 hours, then you get off the bus and get in a rowboat for a paddle that takes about 1 hour going to Thien Tru harbor. There you will enjoy time to do a little trekking to visit the main cave, which is for pilgrimages and believers. Step by step you will approach the Huong Tich cave on the top of the mountain. Be sure to see the Golden-Silver tree. Then walk about one hour back down and have lunch at the bottom of the mountain in a restaurant beside the mountain.

After lunch you will see the Heaven Kitchen pagoda and learn about ancient Buddhist architecture in the Le Dynasty.

You will return by row-boat and bus to Hanoi. You will be back at your hotel at about 18:00.

Bring modest clothes, so you can enter the temple respectfully, a hat, sunscreen and practical shoes, for getting in and out of the boat and for climbing all those stairs! Remember to buy a bottle of water, or bring one with you, before you start up the stairs.
